Frequently Asked Questions About North American Arms Parts

Can you put a .22 Magnum cylinder in a .22 LR NAA mini revolver?
No. You cannot drop a .22 Magnum cylinder into a standard .22 LR frame. North American Arms manufactures two distinct frame sizes. While a dedicated .22 Magnum frame can accept an auxiliary .22 LR conversion cylinder, the smaller, standard .22 LR frame lacks the physical clearance and spacing necessary to safely house or cycle a .22 Magnum cylinder. Always verify your specific frame type before buying an NAA replacement cylinder.

Are North American Arms (.22 LR and .22 Mag) grips interchangeable?
No, grips are not universally interchangeable across different NAA mini-revolver families. Grips designed for standard .22 Long Rifle models feature a shorter profile and will not properly align with the larger grip frame of a .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (WMR) model. Furthermore, specialized frame variants like the NAA Pug, Black Widow, and Sidewinder frequently feature unique frame contours that require dedicated, model-specific grip panels.

How do you fix an NAA mini revolver timing issue or cylinder play?
Cylinder rotation and lockup problems on single-action mini-revolvers are generally traced back to a worn cylinder bolt, a broken bolt spring, or a damaged hand. If your cylinder fails to lock cleanly into alignment when the hammer is fully cocked, inspect the small interior trigger and indexing components. Replacing degraded internal components with factory-new NAA bolt springs or cylinder bolts restores correct cylinder timing and safe indexing.

What causes light primer strikes on a North American Arms .22 revolver?
Light primer strikes on rimfire micro-revolvers are predominantly caused by a weakened mainspring, a worn firing pin, or localized carbon build-up within the frame slot. Because rimfire priming compounds require a sharp, authoritative impact on the cartridge casing rim to ignite, even minor loss of tension in your mainspring can result in intermittent misfires. Thoroughly clear debris from the hammer pocket or swap out the old spring for an original factory replacement part.

Is it safe to dry fire an NAA mini revolver without spent casings?
No, you should avoid excessive dry firing of any rimfire NAA firearm. Without a chambered brass casing to cushion the blow, dropping the hammer allows the firing pin to directly strike the hardened steel edge of the cylinder breech face. Over time, this metal-on-metal impact deforms the firing pin tip and creates structural burrs on the cylinder chambers, leading to failure-to-fire scenarios and extraction complications.
